From Analogue to Digital: Workflows in Practice
This teaching area focuses on digital design, fabrication and contemporary production processes, including 3D scanning, CAD/CAM, modelling, visualisation, rapid prototyping and additive manufacturing. Through project-based formats, students explore how analogue ideas can be translated into digital workflows and further developed into prototypes, moulds, small series or presentation models. The courses are structured to move fluidly between physical and digital states of an object, allowing students to understand digitisation not as a single step but as an ongoing dialogue between hand, material and machine.

Material, Iteration & Critical Tool Use
Experimentation, material understanding and iterative development play a central role throughout the courses. Questions of reproducibility, construction, material behaviour and production are approached as integral parts of the design process, encouraging students to engage with digital technologies not only as technical tools, but as part of a broader contemporary design practice. Particular emphasis is placed on developing a critical and reflective relationship to these tools — understanding their possibilities as well as their limitations, and recognising digital fabrication as a creative medium in its own right rather than a purely technical service.

Preparing Designers for Digital Practice
The teaching area is closely aligned with current developments in design, architecture and product development, where digital workflows increasingly determine how ideas are tested, refined and brought to market. Students are equipped with both the technical literacy and the conceptual confidence to operate at this intersection, preparing them for professional contexts in which digital fluency is a core competency rather than an auxiliary skill. The aim is to foster designers who can move seamlessly between sketch, scan, screen and prototype — and who understand each of these stages as a meaningful part of the design narrative.
